Ontario achieves 2024 immigration targets prioritizes healthcare and tech professionals
In 2024, Ontario has already used up all 21,500 of its allotted federal nominations under the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP).
To meet the labour market demand in Ontario PNP, the program strategically targeted a limited number of priority areas, including technology and health care, to overcome shortages in important areas throughout the province and relied on competent experts.
Along with the federal immigration programs, Ontario uses its primary economic immigration program, OINP, to nominate foreign nationals who have the education, training, and experience that is needed to fill the continuing employment gaps in Ontario.
2024 Stream Nominations
Most nominations were conducted in 2024 under the Express Entry Human Capital Priorities (6,330), Skilled Trades (4,101), Master Graduate (3,810), and International Student (3,283) streams. The focus of these streams is in Ontario on attracting skilled workers, graduates, and entrepreneurs.

Record-Breaking Growth in Healthcare Sector
Due to continued pressure on healthcare systems, in 2024, the OINP nominated more than 3,200 healthcare workers, a historic record, accounting for approximately 15% of all nominations. Occupations included:
- Pharmacists
- Psychiatric nurses and registered nurses
- Patient service associates, nurse aides, and orderlies
- Family physicians and general practitioners
This nomination will enhance the healthcare personnel in Ontario, especially in the underserved regions.
Tech-Based Careers Lead
With more than 6,300, or about 30 percent, of all candidates being in tech-related jobs, the successful Ontario tech sector is another good target. The most important ones were:
- Software Developers and Engineers
- Programmers
- User support technicians
- Business and information systems experts
